Cioè, sciopero "aperto", quello che da ieri stanno facendo alcuni docenti dell'istituto Bourguiba, quello in cui sto studiando. Premetto che quanto segue è ciò che ci hanno riferito gli stessi insegnanti: prendetela quindi come un'informazione inevitabilmente di parte.

That is, "open" strike, this is what some teachers of Bourguiba school (the institute I'm studying at) have started yesterday. I put beforehand that what follows is what the teachers themselves have told us: take it thus as a biased information.

A quanto pare esistono due tipi di insegnanti: i neo-assunti, chiamati direttamente dal Ministero e dotati di regolare contratto, e quelli di vecchia data, che lavorano in nero da anni (in alcuni casi più di dieci). Tra l'altro, i neo-assunti, a detta dei colleghi, hanno poca voglia di lavorare e soprattutto di adattarsi ai metodi dell'istituto (che vanta mezzo secolo di storia, non proprio briciole). Non conosco tutti i neo-assunti, ma diciamo che da quello che mi hanno riferito i metodi di alcuni lasciano veramente un po' a desiderare, soprattutto se confrontati con quello storico basato sull'immersione totale nella lingua e su programmi molto precisi.

Apparently there are two kinds of teachers: the newly hired, coming directly from the Ministry and with a normal contract, and the old ones, who have been working with no contract for years (in some cases more than ten). Moreover, the newly hired are, according to their collegues, lazy workers and they don't want to adopt the methods of the institute (which has existed for around fifty years). I do not personally know the newly hired, but I can say that I've been told their methods leave a bit to be desired, sometimes, most of all if compared with the traditional one based on a whole immersion in the language and on very precise programmes.

Per tutti questi motivi (avere più diritti e tutelare quello che loro ritengono essere il metodo migliore, nella scelta del quale al momento non hanno voce in capitolo non essendo ufficialmente assunti) molti hanno scelto di scioperare, nella speranza di attirare l'attenzione di media e Ministero. Stando a quanto ci hanno riferito questa mattina dovrebbero avercela fatta: in programma per oggi pomeriggio c'era una riunione con il Ministero e il Rettore dell'università di Tunisi, a cui l'istituto fa capo. Bisogna però anche dire che questa storia si trascina avanti da tempo, con continui scioperi che, a quanto pare, non ottengono risultati. Sarà la volta buona? Me lo auguro, per i professori e per noi studenti!

For all these reasons (gaining more rights and defend what they consider it to be the best teaching method, in the choose of which they don't have a say, given that they are not officially hired) many have decided to go on strike, hoping to draw the attention of the Ministry and the media. As far as they have told us this morning, they should have won: this afternoon a meeting is supposed to have been held with the Ministry and the Head of the Faculty. Although I must say that this situation has been lasting for a long time, with many strikes that, apparently, has had no success.Will this be the right time? I hope so, for our teachers and for us the students!
